Since there is no competition, Salter will act as the primary candidate for the Texas House of Representatives. She will be going up against either current representative Cody Harris or Jaye Curtis.

During her political career, Salter has continued to bring her experience in medicine and her passion for rural Texas into her political career.

Carolyn Salter Charges Into 2024 – Reminder of Her Past In Politics

Salter served as the appointed official for the City of Palestine’s Landmark Commission. She was known for her commitment to help rural communities and bring them up with government funding.

Elected in 2005, Salter became the first woman to be elected as mayor in Palestine, Texas. Her focus on education and focusing on the needs of rural Texans bolstered her popularity during her two terms. During her time, she continued to focus on helping the rural communities of Eastern Texas. In 2009, Salter provided emergency shelter to evacuees after two hurricanes had hit Palestine, Texas.

In the 2020 General Election, Salter had received 36% of voters (around 100,000 voters,) making her one of the most voted for democrats in her district. Salter intends to challenge Harris’ position, who she lambasted in the past for failing to defend public education. Salter hopes to provide better access to healthcare for the citizens in Palestine for all residents.
