On January 10th USPS recieved a visit from Al Green, representative of the 9th district of Texas. This trip was a response to the numerous delays the center has had, which had significantly impacted many of Green’s constituents. Green writes that while USPS assured him everything was going to be ok, the assurance was not enough. He wanted to visit the center for himself to see how it operated and worked. He also wanted to see how the Missouri USPS would work with the South Houston Local Processing Center, which is located in Green’s district.
Why Green cares about USPS
The reason Green is spending so much energy on USPS is because it is a part of people’s lives. First, mail is how people get their medications and important documents like passports. Thus, without mail, constitutes have no way to get out of the country or worse risk loosing their lives. Second, mail is how a lot of people vote now because of mail in ballots. Thus, without the ballots people have no way to exercise their democratic right of voting.
While the efforts of Green are seemingly small, they imply something much bigger about him: That he cares. Green did not have to travel all the way across the country to meet with USPS. A call would have been good enough. But he did it because he cares about the wellbeing of his constituents and will go above and beyond to make sure they have everything they need.
The Primary Elections
On Tuesday March 5th, 2024, the citizens of Texas will be given the opportunity to vote for the leaders they want to represent their state or district. When that day comes consider voting for Al Green, who has shown time and time again that he is a servant of the people.
