Incumbent Congresswomen Veronica Escobar’s Fourth Congressional Run

Veronica Escobar, incumbent congresswoman for Texas’ 16^th congressional district, is running for re-election during the 2024 Democratic primary election. She will be running for a fourth term and will be running against Leeland White, D-Texas, for U.S. House Representative. 

Congresswoman Escobar first took office on January 3, 2019 and has been a Rep. for already three terms.

During her first and current 2024 campaign, her main fights were and continue to be for expanding access to affordable healthcare, fair wages for all workers, long-lasting immigration reform, and solutions to the climate crisis.

Congresswomen Veronica Escobar’s General Background

Escobar’s start began as an English teacher at El Paso Community College and at University of Texas at El Paso. She graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and New York University (NYU).

Her prior service before congress was being part of the communications director for former Mayor Raymond Caballero, and the executive director of a non-profit, Community Scholars, which served to teach high school students how to construct public policy reports and recommendations. She also then served as a county judge for seven years for the El Paso County Court in Texas. She resigned from this position in 2018 to start her election campaign.

Her way into the political sphere began as a county commissioner for El Paso County governing body. During this work, she fought against corruption mainly from those who used the government for their own personal gain and collaborated with her colleagues to modernize and reform the county board.

Ever since her move to the political sphere she has proved herself to be a reliable part of congress who is for the people of El Paso. 

Strong Democratic Values

It is evident that Escobar hasn’t disappointed the people of El Paso as she has continued to address and fight for issues that are pertinent and essential to the democratization of Texas and the wellbeing of the community. 

Her leadership positions include being co-chair for the Democratic Policy Communications Committee (DPCC), Servicemembers Quality of Life Panel, the Congressional Progressive Caucus’s (CPC) and as of 2023 she was assigned the Biden/Harris Campaign National co-chair for serving such strong democratic values and ensuring widespread use of such values in the state of Texas.
