Aguirre’s Humble Beginnings
Juan J. Aguirre leads a wondrous Mexican-American success story.
Born to an immigrant mother and a father who dropped out of middle school to join the workforce to provide for his family, Aguirre’s hard work and diligence flowed through his veins.
During Aguirre’s formative years, his father worked as a janitor at the Val Verde County Courthouse in their hometown of Del Rio, Texas. It was here when Aguirre discovered his appreciation for the sphere of law. He recalls sitting in on court hearings and admiring the intensity of the lawyers and judges.
Many first-generation Americans lack thorough guidance when navigating through the intricacies of education. Still, Aguirre did everything in his power to excel in school in hopes of earning a scholarship to further his education.
As the culmination of his fierce academic performance, Aguirre was able to attend Texas A&M University, where he earned two degrees: one in architecture and the second in Urban Planning.
Aguirre’s Professional Accolades
Aguirre then moved back to his hometown of Del Rio, where he held various positions in local politics for nearly ten years.
After a decade of work in Del Rio’s public sector, Aguirre boldly decided to trade his small-town life for the city of Houston to enroll in South Texas College of Law.
Upon obtaining his JD, Aguirre stayed in Houston and began practicing law in the city, where he found a sense of home.
For the past seventeen years, Aguirre has been practicing law as a public defender in criminal cases and assisting the Harris County District Attorney for five years.
Aguirre expressed his personal passion for the legal system: “Each case is a person and a human story, someone’s son or daughter, father or mother, not just a case number.”
After nearly two decades, Aguirre is adequately prepared to utilize his many years in the field of Criminal Law to become a Harris County Judge.
