A Strong Yes to Immigration Reform
Veronica Escobar has worked relentlessly in the name of immigration reform. She made history as the first woman to be elected to represent El Paso and was the first of two Latinas from Texas to serve in Congress and, thus far, Congresswoman Escobar hasn’t disappointed when it comes to protecting the vulnerable – migrants and immigrants.
Immigrants like everyone else in the United States live here to make a living and to be protected. The United States is one of the richest countries in the world and also the safest from war and disaster; however, when it comes to extending laws and policies to protect its citizens from job loss and lack of employment and other things we become stagnant. Immigration is a significant part of our country’s foundation and immigrants continue to build America for what it is now.
What Has Escobar Done for Immigrants?
In a Washington Post interview Congresswoman Escobar said, “Immigration is one of our nation’s greatest challenges right now. We’re a very divided nation, we’re a divided Congress and immigration is one of the toughest issues to even talk about with Republicans…It was about time that we embark on a bipartisan pathway to solving this great challenge.” Staying true to her word Escobar is in the works of supporting the Dream and Promise Act to provide a road towards citizenship for Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients, and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) holders.
Additionally, she made her own bills: the Homeland Security Act; that strengthens supervision and accountability measures at the Department of Homeland Security; and, the Dignity Act; a bipartisan and comprehensive immigration reform bill that provides modernized efforts to multiple features of the U.S. immigration system such as adding additional pathways to citizenship, granting legal status to undocumented immigrants living in the U.S., setting up new pathways for asylum seekers and making new regional processing centers, etc.
Say Yes to Helping Migrants and Immigrants
Escobar understands that both Democrats and Republicans have stayed quiet when talking about immigration reform and she refuses to let them continue doing so. The last serious immigration reform occurred in 1996 and Escobar is aware of this pressing wait on improving the immigration system. Immigration has built the American system and will continue to, and we need to protect those that come to America to build a better system for those that come to enjoy a greater life for themselves.
Escobar is a leader for progressive change for the vulnerable who need our help. Immigration is one of the many challenges that America is going through and there are many injustices and inhumane behavior occurring at our borders. Vote Escobar as she continues to stand up for justice and continues to be dubbed as leader for immigration reform.
