On March 5th, 2024, Texas held its primary elections. NBC News reported on the election and projects that Dan Crenshaw will win the Republican primary elections to represent District 2. This article will discuss why he is not the man for the job.
School Choice
First, Dan Crenshaw supports school choice. School choice is an initiative to allow low-income families to send their children to private schools. What is problematic about school choice is that low-income families are not the ones who benefit from this law. Studies show that the majority of people who benefit from this law are people enrolled in private schools or have the resources to do so. Thus, school choice significantly increased the gap between the rich and the poor. This shows that Crenshaw does not care about the people and is perfectly fine supporting objectively wrong laws that exacerbate the people’s problems.
The Border
Second, Dan Crenshaw is an avid supporter of closing up the border. This is problematic for two reasons. First, the rhetoric he uses to describe the people who cross the border is highly offensive. He refers to them as “gotaways” who threaten “our communities, our state, and our country.” This rhetoric is bad because it is inaccurate. Most people who come from the border are innocent individuals looking to escape the harmful conditions they endured back home. This rhetoric is also bad because portraying people who cross the border as the enemy makes these people less likely to be accepted by society. It also makes them susceptible to racism, etc.
The second reason supporting the closure of the border is problematic is because it prevents people from getting the necessary help they need. Many people who cross the border do so because they are in danger and have no other choice.
Conclusion
Dan Crenshaw’s support for the border and school choice shows that he is not the man for the job. He does not care about anyone but about himself and is exasperating the problems that Texas is already facing.
On November 5th, 2024, Dan Crenshaw will probably be on the ballot to represent District 2 of Texas. If you have a conscience, please consider voting for anyone but Crenshaw.
