Former NFL Player and current Texas representative Colin Allred has secured his democratic nomination to face Ted Cruz in November’s election for Senate. 

Allred broke into the Texas political arena in 2018, when he unseated an incumbent Republican for his current seat as a representative in the Dallas area. His success can be credited to his focus on healthcare particularly abortion rights and his unwavering support for the affordable care act.

Allred has demonstrated a strong campaign, and voters seem to agree. He surpassed the 50% threshold, eliminating the possibility of a runoff; he has gracefully entered the general election stage of his campaign. Hopes are high.

Unseating Ted Cruz is Imperative

The most recent election for senate in 2018 was a significant disappointment for Texas democrats with the narrow loss of Beto O’Rourke and reelection of Ted Cruz. However after a close-loss in 2018, it is likely that democrats in Texas have been made aware of the necessary caliber of their fight to finally unseat Ted Cruz. 

Many issues have arisen under the administration of Ted Cruz. From the violent massacre of children, fleeing the state to Mexico when Texans were freezing to death in their homes, off-putting disregard for accessible healthcare for his constituents, upon many other instances of disturbing, apathetic leadership.
