Texas Convention Voting Crisis

A Texas Convention voting crisis is already underway for Democrats across Dallas and Houston whereby delegates can not vote for members of permanent convention committees.

Flip Texas Blue is informed by multiple sources that several candidates for party office did not receive delegate lists. Further many of the same candidates are not being provided with ballots to vote for party permanent committee members.

One candidate said that state democratic party staff are “playing favorites – as usual.”

“Some candidates are getting delegate lists and access to party resources and others are not,” she said.

This is an old issue for Democrats who say the same thing happens again and again.

“We have the opportunity to put Texas in play for Colin Allred,” said one, “and the state party can’t help but get in the way of itself.”

Another delegate elected to go to El Paso is concerned about those planning protests in El Paso, similar to college campuses. Several candidates have already said they will not support Joe Biden, but are running for DNC delegate.

Gilberto Hinojosa is not returning calls and the state party is ignoring some delegates pleading for help.

Texas Convention Voting Crisis – Just The Beginning?

The current voting issues may be the tip of the iceberg. Emma Pickering, party convention manager, has not returned calls on the topic, but there are multiple concerns about the upcoming El Paso convention.

The convention hall will accomodate 3000 people, but TDP rules allows for 11,000+ delegates.

Additionally, the Texas Democratic Party has not signed a food vendor contract. There was a shortage of vendors in prior years and some would be delegates worry about a repeat of prior errors.

This exclusion may hit diabetics particularly hard and Democrats with Disabilities is a major caucus for the party. These issues remind some delegates of the 2020 debacle where food trucks could not keep up with demand.
